Posman Presents Spooktober

Posman Books

“Weird, emotionally complex, Kafkaesque, dread-filled: I might apply all these terms and more to Michael Wehunt’s collection Greener Pastures. It’s one of the finest debuts I’ve read in years. Wehunt understands that true strangeness comes out of the personal, and that true horror is what happens during the complex interactions between real human beings. Greener Pastures is outstanding work.”
Steve Rasnic Tem, award-winning author of Deadfall HotelBlood Kin, and Ubo

Michael Wehunt comes to Posman to sign Greener Pastures 1-3pm

When reporter Cora Mayburn is assigned to cover a story about a snake-handling cult in rural Appalachia, she is dismayed, for the world of cruel fundamentalist stricture, repression, glossolalia, and abuse is something she has long since put behind her in favor of a more tolerant urban existence. But she accepts the assignment, dredging up long-buried memories as she seeks the truth.

As Cora begins to uncover the secrets concealed by a veneer of faith and tradition, something ancient and long concealed begins to awaken. What secrets do the townsfolk know? What might the handsome young pastor be hiding? What will happen when occulted horrors writhe to the surface, when pallid and forgotten things rise to reclaim the Earth?

Will Cora–and the earth–survive? The answers–and pure terror–can only be found in one place: Beneath.

Part of our Spooktober event, meet Kristi DeMeester on October 21st from 3pm-5pm at Posman Books Atlanta.

Jimmie Dale Gilmore & Dave Alvin

City Winery

Roots music legends, Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, have been friends for 30 years, but only recently realized they had never played music with each other before. So in 2017, Grammy winner Alvin and Grammy nominee Gilmore, decided to hit the highway to swap songs, tell stories, and share their life experiences in an intimate acoustic environment. Though Texas born Gilmore was twice named Country Artist of the Year by Rolling Stone, and California native Alvin first came to fame in the hard rocking rhythm and blues band The Blasters, they discovered that their musical roots in old blues and folk music are exactly the same. In these spontaneous shows, audiences will not only hear classic original compositions from the two, but they also choose songs that include a wide spectrum of songwriters and styles – Everything from old jug band numbers to Merle Haggard and Sam Cooke, to the Young Bloods 60’s anthem, “Get Together”. One thing is for sure, when Alvin and Gilmore go on stage together, it’s guaranteed that each of these rare and special performances will be different from the last. A show you don’t want to miss.

Ellie Holcomb w/ Special Guest Carly Burruss

City Winery

Singer-Songwriter Ellie Holcomb, a Nashville native, began her musical career by touring the country with her husband in Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors. After 8 years, and with the birth of their daughter, Emmylou, Ellie opted to step out of the role of heavy touring. From that space came her debut solo album, As Sure As The Sun, which charted at #1 on the iTunes Christian chart and helped deem Holcomb the “Best New Artist” at the 2014 Dove Awards.

Since the release of As Sure As The Sun Holcomb has been walking an unexpected path, one of suffering and loss but also peace and joy. She has come to the edge of the rushing river of confusion and experienced a God who made a way where there seemed to be no way.

And it is from that place—of finding God in the dark and unexpected—that Holcomb wrote and recorded Red Sea Road (Full Heart Music), released Jan 27th, 2017.

Carly Burruss

Atlanta-based singer/songwriter Carly Burruss is one of the new faces of traditional country music.  Carly performed “We Were Us” with Keith Urban on the Raise Em Up Tour, Opened for Dwight Yoakam at Atlanta Symphony Hall, played along side Florida-Georgia Line, Sam Hunt, Raelynn and Dustin Lynch on FGL’s This Is How We Cruise.  Paired with her wit, humor, and grit, Carly’s infectious melodies and memorable one-liners are reminiscent of her influences like Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Kacey Musgraves.  Carly’s debut single “Ain’t Tryin To Please” and self-titled EP are out now! Find them on iTunes, Spotify and Apple Music.

Average White Band (10pm)

City Winery

AWB are widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit ‘Pick Up the Pieces’ the band’s strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi- grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records. Somewhat incongruously, given their Scottish roots, the six piece took the influences of their R&B; heroes – people like Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and others – and developed their own ‘authentic’ sound which was eagerly adopted by black audiences in the US and elsewhere. While a good number of cuts – ‘Cut The Cake’ and ‘Let’s Go Round Again’- became hit singles, many other album tracks, like ‘Schoolboy Crush’ and ‘Stop The Rain’ became much sampled grooves. Many more tunes, such as ‘Cloudy’, and ‘A Love Of Your Own’- amongst many others- stand alongside some of the finest soul ‘album tracks’ ever recorded.

The current line-up of the band – this time with noted US recruits augmenting founder members Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyre – continue to record and tour around the world to ongoing critical and audience acclaim.

Posman Presents Spooktober

Posman Books

Seventeen-year-old James Daly’s father bought a house in small-town Edington, Georgia to go with a promotion at his Atlanta law firm, only to lose his job when the housing bubble popped and the economy tanked. Now James has to work at the Edington Best Buy to help pay the mortgage they’re underwater on. He can’t wait until he turns eighteen and can leave Edington behind forever.

But when a local boy challenges him to an ATV race near a tree farm most people avoid, things get much worse. James’ rival is dismembered alive by a tentacled horror emerging from a nearby pond. The monstrosity has been worshiped by a murderous coven since before the Civil War, and its devotees don’t take kindly to their secrets being threatened.

Now with the aid of Amber Webb, a local girl he doesn’t like liking, and a renegade cult member, James must fight to avoid ending up bound to a picnic table and offered up to a monster. He must do battle with both the local cultists and their predatory master, THE THING IN THE WOODS.

This event will slither in on Saturday, October 28th from 1pm – 3pm.  Please join us for a classic Lovecraftian horror signing.
