We will cover how to train up a lively starter from scratch, how to mix, ferment, shape, and bake your own loaf, and how to best utilize your home oven to produce crusty delicious results. We are limiting class size due to our small space, and to maximize hands-on bench-time with our lovely bakers!

  3. Most importantly, guests and artists alike can donate shoes (share love) to the victims of sex trafficking in the Atlanta community.

In this advanced class students will make either the Closet Case patterns Ginger Jeans or Cashmerette Ames Jeans over the course 3 sessions on a fun-filled jeans-making weekend. For Men, we also offer Thread Theory Quadro Jeans. Class will be begin on Friday 5:30-8:30 PM and continue Saturday and Sunday 11-5 PM.  Gingers and Ames jeans have a skinny, flattering fit designed for stretch denim. Your instructor will be in touch after you sign up to offer fitting and pre-cutting advice.

Note: To save time and space for your fellow sewists, please cut your pattern out before class. No need to stop by the shop, we will mail it to you approximately two weeks before class!  We encourage you to contact us before class if you need help cutting out your fabric. 

Skills you will learn:

In this class students will learn fitting tips and tricks to get the fit right, learn various seam finishes, learn to sew with a denim needle and thread, learn tidy topstitching, pocket assembly and proper placement, learning to sew a zip or button fly front, how to sew a neat waistband, how to apply rivets and hem your jeans.

Skills expected: This is an advanced class. Please be sure you have experience equivalent to a level-3 class.

Materials needed: Denim for your size (see yardage based on measurements on the back of your pattern), 200 yards of denim topstitching thread. We have Cone Mills stretch denim that is perfect for these jeans.

Materials provided: Ginger or Ames jeans sewing pattern, a zipper or buttons for button fly and rivets, a sewing machine, thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron.

Topstitch Beginner Class: Essential Shirt

Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Skills you will learn: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.

In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you've threaded the machine you'll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We'll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it's a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50". Ask a staff member if you're unsure about your fabric shrinkage. The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. In this class you will learn all the basics of the serger, including learning the parts of the serger, how to thread the machine, clean it, understand tension and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Your fabric will need to have 40% stretch. You will need 1 & 1/2 yards of fabric for all sizes if your fabric is 60″ wide; 2 & 1/2 if you fabric is 45″ wide.

Skills taught: The skills you will learn in this class are an understanding of using sergers, how to thread the serger and troubleshoot common issues, how to sew stretch fabrics, sewing a waistband, serging seams.

Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have equivalent experience. You have some basic garment sewing experience and know how to read a sewing pattern. You know how to thread and use a sewing machine. You’ve sewn within the last 2 years. You will not be taught to sew in this class so please be sure you already know how to sew!

Do you know the basics of embroidery and want to continue your stitching and learning? This is a next level embroidery class, where you will be stitching a custom piece using the thread painting technique. You can either choose from a pre-made pattern designed by our very own Morgan Bowling or bring in a design, illustration, or photo of your own to work from.

Skills taught: Transferring designs with printable stabilizer, advanced stitches (fill-in satin stitch & split stitch), working with color.

Skills expected: Basic hand embroidery.
