Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Skills you will learn: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.

Skills expected: None, just an open mind!

Materials needed: 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen.

Materials provided: The Essential shirt sewing pattern, a sewing machine, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron.

*Note: Fabric not included. Check the pattern back for fabric yardage required for your size. Bring your pre-washed and pre-cut fabric to class. To save time and space for your fellow sewists, cut your pattern out before class. We encourage you to stop into the shop before class for help cutting out your fabric if needed. 

  • Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro-to-sewing classes or have equivalent of experience. You have some basic garment-sewing experience such as a pullover top or a-line skirt. You know how to thread and use a sewing machine. You’ve sewn within the last 2 years. You will not be taught to sew in this class so please be sure you already know how to sew!
  • Materials needed: See your required fabric yardage on the back of the pattern and bring your fabric pre-washed to class.

Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

  • Skills Expected: None, just an open mind.
  • Materials Needed: Two fabric pieces 1/2 yard for each piece (1 interior / 1 exterior). Suitable fabrics are quilting cotton and heavier weight fabrics like canvas.

Daisy was carefully designed to be versatile and provide you with subtle support while lounging, playing, sleeping, traveling or just going out.

  • Skills taught: Sewing with knit and lace fabrics, sewing bra elastic, sewing curves.
  • Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro classes or have equivalent experience. You know how to thread and use a sewing machine. You’ve sewn within the last 2 years. You have some basic garment sewing experience.
    You will not be taught to sew in this class so please be sure you already know how to sew!

The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. In this class you will learn all the basics of the serger, including learning the parts of the serger, how to thread the machine, clean it, understand tension and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Your fabric will need to have 40% stretch. You will need 1 & 1/2 yards of fabric for all sizes if your fabric is 60″ wide; 2 & 1/2 if you fabric is 45″ wide.

Skills taught: The skills you will learn in this class are an understanding of using sergers, how to thread the serger and troubleshoot common issues, how to sew stretch fabrics, sewing a waistband, serging seams.

Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have equivalent experience. You have some basic garment sewing experience and know how to read a sewing pattern. Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Skills you will learn: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.

Engage with some of the southeast’s most talented independent filmmakers. Listen as they tell you about their most current production and how they plan to take it from script to screen. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Engage with some of the southeast’s most talented independent filmmakers. Listen as they tell you about their most current production and how they plan to take it from script to screen. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. In this class you will learn all the basics of the serger, including learning the parts of the serger, how to thread the machine, clean it, understand tension and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Skills you will learn: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.

Engage with some of the southeast’s most talented independent filmmakers. Listen as they tell you about their most current production and how they plan to take it from script to screen. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. In this class you will learn all the basics of the serger, including learning the parts of the serger, how to thread the machine, clean it, understand tension and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Your fabric will need to have 40% stretch. You will need 1 & 1/2 yards of fabric for all sizes if your fabric is 60″ wide; 2 & 1/2 if you fabric is 45″ wide.

Skills taught: The skills you will learn in this class are an understanding of using sergers, how to thread the serger and troubleshoot common issues, how to sew stretch fabrics, sewing a waistband, serging seams.

Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have equivalent experience. You have some basic garment sewing experience and know how to read a sewing pattern. Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Skills you will learn: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.

Engage with some of the southeast’s most talented independent filmmakers. Listen as they tell you about their most current production and how they plan to take it from script to screen. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. In this class you will learn all the basics of the serger, including learning the parts of the serger, how to thread the machine, clean it, understand tension and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Your fabric will need to have 40% stretch. You will need 1 & 1/2 yards of fabric for all sizes if your fabric is 60″ wide; 2 & 1/2 if you fabric is 45″ wide.

Skills taught: The skills you will learn in this class are an understanding of using sergers, how to thread the serger and troubleshoot common issues, how to sew stretch fabrics, sewing a waistband, serging seams.

Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have equivalent experience. You have some basic garment sewing experience and know how to read a sewing pattern. Topstitch Beginner Class: Essential Shirt @ Topstitch

Our essential shirt is a great beginner sewing class, introducing you to the world of garment sewing. In this 4-hour class you will learn to sew and make our Topstitch Essential Shirt pattern. You will learn all the basics of sewing, including learning the parts of the sewing machine and how to use them, learn how to wind a bobbin, thread the machine and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn how to cut out your pattern, learn the basics of understanding seam allowance, straight stitching and sewing along curves. We’ll provide the pattern and specific instructions and guide you along the way to make a the shirt. It is a boxy, kimono sleeved pullover. With no fitting challenges and no fiddly closures, it’s a perfect intro project. The pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Please bring 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric to class. It is best suited for fabrics such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen. NOTE: Fabric can shrink after washing so you may want a little more than 1.5 yds especially if your fabric has a width less than 50″. Ask a staff member if you’re unsure about your fabric shrinkage.

Skills you will learn: The skills you will learn in the class are how to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.

Skills expected: None, just an open mind!

Materials needed: 1.5 yards of pre-washed fabric such as cotton lawn, double gauze, voile or linen.

Materials provided: The Essential shirt sewing pattern, a sewing machine, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape and an iron.

In our 2-part, advanced beginner dressmaking class, students will make The Day Dress by The Avid Seamstress. The classic silhouette is the essential dress pattern to teach you necessary dressmaking skills such as darts, set-in sleeves, gathered waist, invisible zipper closure … and POCKETS! Pattern and sewing tools included at class*.

 

*Note: Fabric not included. Check the pattern back for fabric yardage required for your size. Bring your pre-washed and pre-cut fabric to class. To save time and space for your fellow sewists, cut your pattern out before class. We encourage you to stop into the shop before class for help cutting out your fabric if needed. 

  • Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro-to-sewing classes or have equivalent of experience. You have some basic garment-sewing experience such as a pullover top or a-line skirt. You know how to thread and use a sewing machine. You’ve sewn within the last 2 years. You will not be taught to sew in this class so please be sure you already know how to sew!
  • Materials needed: See your required fabric yardage on the back of the pattern and bring your fabric pre-washed to class.

Engage with some of the southeast’s most talented independent filmmakers. Listen as they tell you about their most current production and how they plan to take it from script to screen. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

This simple design is equally simple to make.

  • Skills Taught: How to understand a sewing machine, the concept of seam allowance and how to sew to a particular seam allowance, how to pin and cut fabric, how to sew in a straight line and how to sew curves.
  • Skills Expected: None, just an open mind.
  • Materials Needed: Two fabric pieces 1/2 yard for each piece (1 interior / 1 exterior). Suitable fabrics are quilting cotton and heavier weight fabrics like canvas.

George Weinstein is the author of five novels to date, including The Five Destinies of Carlos Moreno, the contemporary mystery, Aftermath, and the Southern historical novel, Hardscrabble Road, a favorite with book clubs. In addition, George speaks often at conferences, workshops, and other events. He has been an active participant and leader within the Atlanta Writers Club since 2001 and directs the AWC’s Atlanta Writers Conference twice each year. Daisy was carefully designed to be versatile and provide you with subtle support while lounging, playing, sleeping, traveling or just going out.

  • Skills taught: Sewing with knit and lace fabrics, sewing bra elastic, sewing curves.

The serger is often what sets homemade-looking garments apart from beautifully handmade garments. Learn the art of finishing your garment with a serger. In this class you will learn all the basics of the serger, including learning the parts of the serger, how to thread the machine, clean it, understand tension and troubleshoot common issues. Once you’ve threaded the machine you’ll learn various stitches and then sew a pair of leggings.

The Virginia leggings are a great intro to knits in conjunction with the serger. Leggings are a wardrobe staple, excellent as casual lounge pants or easily dressed up depending on your fabric choice. Pattern and sewing tools included at class. Fabric not included. Your fabric will need to have 40% stretch. You will need 1 & 1/2 yards of fabric for all sizes if your fabric is 60″ wide; 2 & 1/2 if you fabric is 45″ wide.

Skills taught: The skills you will learn in this class are an understanding of using sergers, how to thread the serger and troubleshoot common issues, how to sew stretch fabrics, sewing a waistband, serging seams.

Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have equivalent experience. You have some basic garment sewing experience and know how to read a sewing pattern. You know how to thread and use a sewing machine. You’ve sewn within the last 2 years. You will not be taught to sew in this class so please be sure you already know how to sew!

Materials needed: Fabric. You will need 1 & 1/2 yards of fabric for all sizes if your fabric is 60″ wide; 2 & 1/2 if you fabric is 45″ wide. Fabric should have 40% stretch.
