Books & Booze: An American Marriage

City Winery Atlanta

Ponce City Market’s Posman Books and City Winery have teamed up to put a new spin on the term “book club”. Literature lovers can purchase their copy of the month’s selection today from Posman Books and later bring it to Atlanta’s urban winery to enjoy a spirited discussion among fellow readers. Posman Books’ General Manager Marc Stiles will host.

This month…An American Marriage by Tayari Jones!

Newlyweds, Celestial and Roy, are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive and she is artist on the brink of an exciting career. They are settling into the routine of their life together, when they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn’t commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy’s time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. After five years, Roy’s conviction is suddenly overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together. This stirring love story is a deeply insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward– with hope and pain– into the future.

Author Tayari Jones joins us at this event.

“All our life needs is for us to come to a spiritual endurance. The effect of this spiritual endurance is the primary factor that can take you calmly and quietly through the channels of life. There is no difference between you and your divine endurance. The pressure we all go through is sometimes unbearable and this pressure is always here. Atmosphere has a pressure, longitude and latitude have a pressure, and aptitude and attitude have a pressure. That is why we build spiritual endurance through meditation and mantra. Sometimes each person’s load can only be taken collectively. Collectively we can pull the weight. We have a collective strength in us, hand in hand, in friendship, in the love, and in the affection. Do not keep things to yourself and say, ‘I cannot.’ There is nothing you cannot do.”-Yogi Bhajan

There is no difference between you and your divine endurance. The pressure we all go through is sometimes unbearable and this pressure is always here. PCM Community Farmers Market

The Shed

Located under “The Shed” on the BeltLine entrance of Ponce City Market, the Ponce City Farmers Market  is the only farmers market in Georgia primarily attended by pedestrians and cyclists. The market is held seasonally on Tuesday evenings, and hosts some of Atlanta’s finest local food talent, including urban farmers, artisanal food makers, as well as pop-up chefs. Our market is a producer-only market, meaning that vendors sell only products that they grow or produce themselves. Our farmers use organic practices (some going even beyond organic) to help steward the earth while producing the freshest and most nutritious food available in Georgia. Look for veggies and fruits, pasture-raised eggs and meats, alongside artisanal food vendors and natural beauty-care vendors.

We encourage shoppers to access the market by walking or biking on the Beltline or park at Ponce City Market. Parking is complimentary for farmers market shoppers in the lots in front of Mountain High Outfitters. Market shoppers can receive one hour of free parking in these lots by choosing zone 22200 and inputting the code FARMERS2018 in the Park Mobile app. This is only valid during market.

Meet the Author: Arin Greenwood

Posman Books

Fusing the heart of Julie of the Wolves with the imagination of Little Brother and Ship Breaker, this speculative YA, Your Robot Dog Will Die, is a must-read for any dog lover. When a global genetic experiment goes awry and canines stop wagging their tails, mass hysteria ensues, and the species is systematically euthanized. But soon, Mechanical Tail comes to the rescue. The company creates replacements for “man’s best friend” and studies them on Dog Island, where 17-year-old Nano Miller was born and raised. Nano’s life has become a cycle of annual heartbreak.  Every spring, she is given the latest robot dog model to test, only to have it torn from her arms a year later. But one day she makes a discovery that upends everything she’s taken for granted: a living puppy that miraculously wags its tail. And there is no way she’s letting this dog go. DOG LOVERS UNITE!

Books & Booze: A Gentleman in Moscow

Posman Books

Ponce City Market’s Posman Books and City Winery have teamed up to put a new spin on the term “book club.”

Literature lovers can purchase their copy of the month’s selection today from Posman Books and later bring it to Atlanta’s urban winery to enjoy a spirited discussion among fellow readers. Posman Books’ General Manager Marc Stiles will host.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Rules of Civility–a transporting novel about a man who is ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel– comes the novel A Gentleman in Moscow. In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery. Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.
