Books & Booze: An American Marriage @ City Winery Atlanta

Ponce City Market’s Posman Books and City Winery have teamed up to put a new spin on the term “book club”. Literature lovers can purchase their copy of the month’s selection today from Posman Books and later bring it to Atlanta’s urban winery to enjoy a spirited discussion among fellow readers. Posman Books’ General Manager Marc Stiles will host.

This month…An American Marriage by Tayari Jones!

Newlyweds, Celestial and Roy, are the embodiment of both the American Dream and the New South. He is a young executive and she is artist on the brink of an exciting career. They are settling into the routine of their life together, when they are ripped apart by circumstances neither could have imagined. Roy is arrested and sentenced to twelve years for a crime Celestial knows he didn’t commit. Though fiercely independent, Celestial finds herself bereft and unmoored, taking comfort in Andre, her childhood friend, and best man at their wedding. As Roy’s time in prison passes, she is unable to hold on to the love that has been her center. After five years, Roy’s conviction is suddenly overturned, and he returns to Atlanta ready to resume their life together. This stirring love story is a deeply insightful look into the hearts and minds of three people who are at once bound and separated by forces beyond their control. An American Marriage is a masterpiece of storytelling, an intimate look into the souls of people who must reckon with the past while moving forward– with hope and pain– into the future.

Author Tayari Jones joins us at this event.

City Winery Atlanta

Ponce City Market’s Posman Books and The City Winery have teamed up to put a new spin on the term “book club.” Literature lovers can purchase their copy of the month’s selection today from Posman Books and later bring it to Atlanta’s urban winery on August 20th, 7 pm – 9 pm, to enjoy a spirited discussion among fellow readers. Posman Books’ General Manager Marc Stiles will host.

This month’s selection is modern horror classic The Changeling by Victor Lavalle. Like the best horror it uses genre tropes to dig into the muck that lies beneath society’s veneer. Apollo Kagwa has always led a … let’s say … tense existence as one of New York City’s only black book dealers. (It’s hard to concentrate on buying antique books when the nice suburban couple won’t let you use their bathroom, and the neighbors are watching your every move.) But Apollo thinks he’s stumbled into a perfect life when he marries librarian Emma Valentine and the two start a family. As baby Brian grows, Emma begins acting stranger and stranger, and Apollo starts finding increasingly unsettling photos on his phone. When a drastic action on Emma’s part breaks the family’s lives open, Apollo finds himself living in a terrifying fairy tale, fighting his way through secret islands, haunted woodlands, and a terrifying, mythical New York, all to try to win his wife and son back. The story examines race, class, true love, romance, revenge—all the good stuff—all while staying true to its horror roots.

PCM Community Farmers Market

The Shed

Located under “The Shed” on the BeltLine entrance of Ponce City Market, the Ponce City Farmers Market  is the only farmers market in Georgia primarily attended by pedestrians and cyclists. The market is held seasonally on Tuesday evenings, and hosts some of Atlanta’s finest local food talent, including urban farmers, artisanal food makers, as well as pop-up chefs.nOur market is a producer-only market, meaning that vendors sell only products that they grow or produce themselves. Our farmers use organic practices (some going even beyond organic) to help steward the earth while producing the freshest and most nutritious food available in Georgia. Look for veggies and fruits, pasture-raised eggs and meats, alongside artisanal food vendors and natural beauty-care vendors.

We encourage shoppers to access the market by walking or biking on the Beltline or park at Ponce City Market. Parking is complimentary for farmers market shoppers in the lots in front of Mountain High Outfitters. Market shoppers can receive one hour of free parking in these lots by choosing zone 22200 and inputting the code FARMERS2018 in the Park Mobile app. This is only valid during market.
