Books & Booze: The Seven Husbands of Eleanor Hugo @ City Winery

Aging and reclusive Hollywood movie icon Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. When she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now? Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jump start her career. Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways. Written with Reid’s signature talent for “creating complex, likable characters” (Real Simple), this is a fascinating journey through the splendor of Old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it takes—to face the truth.

The Entrepreneur’s Mindset

General Assembly

Social media can make entrepreneurship look easy, but let’s be real…it’s hard. Lonely. Emotions go high and low all in one day. Come to listen to how successful entrepreneurs have built their tribe, bounced back from setbacks, met mentors along the way, and finally built a sustainable and profitable business. What you say to yourself is a huge deal that could either push you forward or lead you to quit.

What You’ll Take Away: If you are just starting out, you’ll get a real look at what the journey to launching and sustaining your business will look like.

Why it Matters: An entrepreneur’s mindset is just as important as the idea.

Baking 101 @ Root Baking Co

We will host a small group of ultra-beginners* here at the bakery to learn how to bake at home with sourdough starter. We will cover how to train up a lively starter from scratch, how to mix, ferment, shape, and bake your own loaf, and how to best utilize your home oven to produce crusty delicious results. We are limiting class size due to our small space, and to maximize hands-on bench-time with our lovely bakers!

You will take home:

  • A fresh loaf of sourdough that you’ve made!
  • A bit of active starter to keep you baking at home
  • Freshly milled whole wheat flour to feed your starter
  • Information packet including helpful tips and notes from the class
  • Replicable formula for homemade country sourdough bread*This class is intended for folks who have little to no experience with naturally leavened baking. We will cover all basics to build a confident foundation upon which you can explore later, more advanced classes that’ll be offered in forthcoming months!

The Grinch & Santa in Residence

Naughty or Nice? Bring Your Own Camera for Holiday Photo Magic at PCM!

Following his initial grand entrance on Black Friday, The Grinch will make his way back to Ponce City Market with great fanfare, taking up residency on the 2nd Floor of The Food Hall between Elk Head & Cobbler Union, where he’ll be “grinching” each and every Saturday and Sunday through December 16th. Starting at 11am*, The Grinch parades into his lair & will be there until 6pm.

At The Tree Elves Lot on The Yard, Santa will hold court for iPhone photos and wish lists, while a stage will host a rotating roster of choirs, musicians, and other festive weekend entertainers. Hot cocoa, holiday popsicle flavors, and more will be available from King of Pops to enjoy around cozy fire pits at The Tree Elves Holiday Forest each and every Saturday and Sunday through December 24th.

A new addition to this year’s Santa & Grinch photo opportunities at Ponce City Market will be a digital line! Both Santa & the Grinch will exclusively use digital lines this year, so NO waiting in a physical line for hours! It’s quick and easy to sign up onsite. Staff will be at each line to sign you up and you’ll get a confirmation text with the number of guests “in line” in front of you. We will text you 15 minutes before Santa or the Grinch are ready for you, and meanwhile you can wander PCM to grab a bite to eat or do some holiday shopping. Please note, you will not be able to sign up in the digital line until you are on the premises.

(*Both Santa and Grinch are out for lunch from 1pm-2pm; Grinch breaks to feed Max from 3:30pm-4:15pm)

Please note, you will not be able to sign up in the digital line until you are on the premises.

(*Both Santa and Grinch are out for lunch from 1pm-2pm; Grinch breaks to feed Max from 3:30pm-4:15pm)
