What happens when you toss tradition out the window and really start living for yourself? Venus Johnston has a great job, a beautiful home, and a loving live-in boyfriend named Clint, who happens to be a drop-dead gorgeous doctor. She also has a weekly beauty-parlor date with Tina, who keeps Venus’s long, processed hair slick and straight. But when Clint–who’s been reluctant to commit over the past four years–brings home a puppy instead of an engagement ring, Venus decides to give it all up. She trades in her long hair for a dramatically short, natural cut and sends Clint packing. It’s a bold declaration of independence–one that has effects she never could have imagined. Reactions from friends and coworkers range from concern to contempt to outright condemnation. And when Clint moves on and starts dating a voluptuous, long-haired beauty, Venus is forced to question what she really wants out of life. With wit, resilience, and a lot of determination, she finally learns what true happiness is–on her own terms. Told with style, savvy, and humor, Nappily Ever After is a novel that marks the debut of a fresh new voice in fiction.

Meet popular local author, Mark Warren, as we present his brand new novel, Born To The Badge.
Mark will be signing from 1 pm – 3 pm on Saturday, November 24 at Posman Books at Ponce City Market.

“Shunted from his entrepreneurial ambitions to profit from the boom towns of the frontier, Wyatt Earp returns to law enforcement. In Wichita, Kansas the town leaders become disenchanted with his hard line methods, and so he moves to a place where an iron-rule is needed – Dodge City. With him comes Mattie Blaylock, a runaway prostitute, who, like Wyatt, is searching for a chance at a better life. As marshal in Dodge, Wyatt establishes a reputation as a peace officer, but he knows that police work will never deliver what he wants. After joining the Black Hills gold rush and then serving a stint as railroad detective in Texas, he returns to Kansas, only to pin on the badge again and inadvertently forge his path into history.”

We’ll also have copies of Mark’s previous books, Adobe Moon and Two Winters In A Tipi.

Meet Chef Todd Richards, Author of SOUL @ Posman Books
Dec 1 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Meet Chef Todd Richards, Author of SOUL @ Posman Books

James Beard Award-nominated Chef Todd Richards shares his personal culinary exploration of soul food at Posman Books at Ponce City Market where he will present a food demo and sign copies of his book, Soul. Black American chefs and cooks are often typecast as the experts of only one cuisine—soul food, but Todd Richards’ food is anything but stereotypical. Taste his Hot-Chicken-Style Country-Fried Lamb Steak or Blueberry-Sweet Tea-Brined Chicken Thighs as evidence. While his dishes are rooted in family and the American cuisine known as soul food, he doesn’t let his heritage restrain him. The message of Soul is that cooks can honor tradition yet be liberated to explore. Todd Richards celebrates the restorative wonders of a classic pot of Collard Greens with Ham Hocks, yet doesn’t shy away from building upon that foundational recipe with his Collard Green Ramen, a reinterpretation that incorporates far-flung flavors of cultural influences and exemplifies culinary evolution. Page after page, in more than 150 recipes and stunning photos, Todd shares his creativity and passion to highlight what soul food can be for a new generation of cooks. Whether you’re new to Southern and soul food or call the South your home, Soul will encourage you to not only step outside of the box, but to boldly walk away from it.

Venus Johnston has a great job, a beautiful home, and a loving live-in boyfriend named Clint, who happens to be a drop-dead gorgeous doctor. She also has a weekly beauty-parlor date with Tina, who keeps Venus's long, processed hair slick and straight. But when Clint--who's been reluctant to commit over the past four years--brings home a puppy instead of an engagement ring, Venus decides to give it all up. She trades in her long hair for a dramatically short, natural cut and sends Clint packing. It's a bold declaration of independence--one that has effects she never could have imagined. Reactions from friends and coworkers range from concern to contempt to outright condemnation.

The Ultimate Showdown of Naughty Vs. Nice

The Yard

Fellow Atlantans, the Grinch is back in town and this year he’s taking no prisoners. On November 23rd at 10:30 a.m., the Yard at Ponce City Market is ground-zero for this holiday season’s biggest, baddest, most body-slamming-est brouhaha the ATL has ever seen. It’s the Ultimate Showdown of Naughty vs. Nice: in one corner, green, mean, anything but clean, the Grinch and his Punishing Posse; and in the other corner, in his famous red suit with a sack of menace slung over his shoulder, it’s Santa CLAWS and his Brawny Bunch! So come one, come all, and claim a ring-side seat to witness up-close a wrestling match for the ages. It’s all on the line, Atlanta… Who’s it gonna be? The Champion of Cheer or the Father of Fear? The List Maker or the Gift Taker? Let’s get ready to ruuuuumbleeeeee!

Mayhem at the Market is free to all and begins at 11 a.m., but come early for face-painting, poster- making, temporary tattoos and more!

Join us November 20th from 7 pm to 9 pm at The City Winery and start your Holiday season RIGHT!

Posman Books

Topstitch Holiday Ziplet Workshop @ Topstitch

Do you love being able to give handmade gifts for the holidays? We have a full day of gift making workshops to help you “make all the things!” Throughout the day we will be hosting individual 2hr classes for various sewing projects that make great gifts! Choose from a cute ziplet, an embroidered pendant or upcycled mittens. These classes are great for those who have a little bit of sewing or embroidery experience.
