Tour Ponce City Market

01 14 2016 | Posted in Events,History

We know that you get just as excited by the history of PCM as we do, which is why we’re happy to announce that we will begin offering tours on Saturdays. The rich history behind Ponce City Market is all in thanks to Sears, Roebuck, & Co. which began construction on the iconic building that we now occupy in 1926.

From development to future plans, you’ll get an inside look at the 2 million square foot building that has now become one of Atlanta’s largest adaptive reuse projects.

Holiday Spectacular

For years Sears, Roebuck & Co. was a beacon of holiday magic for Atlanta and this year, we look forward to helping to carry on the tradition at Ponce City Market by kicking off the season with a Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, November 28th.

At the height of operations, Sears, Roebuck & Co. employed more than 1,000 employees in retail and order facilities every day. Approximately 500 additional employees were hired for the holiday season to ensure that all orders were filled in time for Christmas. The floors in the building were so large that many employees fulfilling catalog orders would wear roller skates to move throughout the space!

This year, we look forward to helping carry on the tradition at Ponce City Market by kicking off the season with a Holiday Spectacular on Saturday, November 28th. Enjoy twinkling lights, festive food & drinks, good cheer, and fun surprises will kick off the holiday season in true festive style.

Beginning at 3PM, join us for a gingerbread house display, face painting, magic tricks, chalk art, elf sightings and if you’re lucky, an appearance from Santa.

Some of Atlanta’s favorite choirs will perform throughout the day on the 2nd floor:

3:00 PM – Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus

4:00 PM – Atlanta Young Singers of Callanwolde

5:00 PM – Suzuki Singers of PCM’s The Suzuki School

6:00 PM – Georgia Tech Chamber Choir

8:00 PM – Atlanta Women’s Chorus

At 7PM, join us for the first lighting of the holiday decor and iconic Sears tower followed by an extra special arrival from Santa that you just can’t miss.

July 11, 2011, Jamestown purchased City Hall East from the City of Atlanta. That was the day everything launched – our website, social media, and the roller coaster ride that has been the redevelopment of Ponce City Market. Here we are, three years later on the verge of many firsts – in less than 2 months we’ll have residents living in the building, office tenants moving in and Binders and Suzuki School open. It seems fitting that we launch our new website today. Hang on tight – the ride is about get wild.
