Topstitch Advanced Beginner: Hack It!

Topstitch

Have you ever picked up a pattern and thought, “Boy I’d love to sew this, if only the Neckline were shaped differently. Or if only the sleeves were a different style, the skirt wasn’t so curved, the bodice of this pattern was attached to the lower half of this other pattern.” In this 3-hour class, Brittani will guide you through the steps necessary to make those changes to your could-be-favorite patterns!
She will help you determine what alterations can be made to your pattern BEFORE you even cut it out! Then Brittani will guide you through making adjustments to any pattern pieces affected by your alteration. She will take a look with you at your pattern instructions and help to note how you may need to sew your garment up differently than what is advised.
*Please note that in this class, the goal of this class is to pick up the skills necessary to make adjustments to your patterns before the sewing process begins.

Skills expected: You’ve taken one of our intro to sewing classes or have the equivalent amount of experience. You must already know how to sew on a sewing machine.

Materials needed: Bring in 1-3 pattern options you’d like to re-design and the instructor will help you decide which one to tackle in class. If you have any questions or concerns about what to bring, feel free to email us.

Materials provided: Sewing machines, thread, scissors, irons, ironing boards.

RoleCall Presents: Film Pitch ATL

General Assembly

Engage with some of the southeast’s most talented independent filmmakers. Listen as they tell you about their most current production and how they plan to take it from script to screen. Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan… aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money!

After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience… ask them anything!

Each project that pitches already has a finished script and is deep into pre-production, with the ability to begin principal photography within 6 months. Their presentation at Film Pitch ATL is to help them gain more exposure for their project, close a funding round, fill final cast and crew positions, and potentially begin distribution conversations.

Join us in the audience if you’re an investor, a potential investor, actor, above and below the line crew, film business professionals, film enthusiast, or just curious to learn more about the ATL film scene.

Learn from them as they explain their concept, how they find cast and crew, their financing strategy, and their marketing and business plan... aka how do they plan to distribute their film and actually make money! After each pitch, the director/producer of the project will open the floor to questions for a 5 minute Q&A with the audience... ask them anything! The Abolitionist’s Daughter

Posman Books

Vividly rendered, culturally important and unexpectedly personal, THE ABOLITIONIST’S DAUGHTER is Diane McPhail’s debut novel. Set in Mississippi during the violent turmoil leading up to and just after the Civil War, the novel illuminates a corner of Southern history that’s little-known and rarely glimpsed: the experiences and struggles of those openly opposed to slavery in a time and place when the freeing of slaves was illegal, the suggestion of it potentially fatal.  At the novel’s heart are three extraordinary women who refuse to compromise what they know to be right, as they negotiate the devastations of war, betrayal and a world depleted by the conflict of men. One of these characters was actually inspired by Diane McPhail’s own great grandmother, as the events in the book are all based on the true historical feud between two families – the Edwards and the Greys – in Webster County, Mississippi.

Posman Books

Fusing the heart of Julie of the Wolves with the imagination of Little Brother and Ship Breaker, this speculative YA, Your Robot Dog Will Die, is a must-read for any dog lover. When a global genetic experiment goes awry and canines stop wagging their tails, mass hysteria ensues, and the species is systematically euthanized. But soon, Mechanical Tail comes to the rescue. The company creates replacements for “man’s best friend” and studies them on Dog Island, where 17-year-old Nano Miller was born and raised. Nano’s life has become a cycle of annual heartbreak.  Every spring, she is given the latest robot dog model to test, only to have it torn from her arms a year later. But one day she makes a discovery that upends everything she’s taken for granted: a living puppy that miraculously wags its tail. And there is no way she’s letting this dog go. DOG LOVERS UNITE!
