Waist beads have been worn for centuries by women in West African communities. They can be made of glass, metal, crystals, gemstones, charms, wooden beads, or plastic beads. Often, the colors chosen and materials used have significant meaning and represent personal beliefs. It’s said that there are one million different ways to tie your beads on, and one million different places they can fall on your body.
Bombchel offers waist beads + tie-ons for a fee every day in-store. On the last Sunday each month, Bombchel hosts Black Girl Waisted in-store for free waist bead tie-ons. If you’re curious about waist beads, drop by their next event Sunday, July 31 from 2pm - 5pm to get all of your questions answered.
